Chesley, Paisley & Huron Coast - Day 22 (Tues 10 Sep)

Monday was a rest day - pottering around the house, picking vegetables from the garden and a little necessary shopping + some unnecessary shopping at a lovely little antiques, craft and preserves shop near the main road, "The Bruce Beckons" - a picture later on sometime.)
Tuesday was a hot, humid, slightly smoggy day (as they say on the local forecast, "29 feels like 38" - actual turned out to be a near heatwave 33 or 35).
As we wanted to go to Keady (for fresh sweet corn etc) and had to go to Owen Sound (for a new watch battery for John), we decided to revisit two lovely little towns we remember from previous visits and the Lake Huron coast on the way home.

Chesley was very much as we had remembered it - the Saugeen River, an old mill (now grain store), a beautiful private garden (open for public viewing) ...

Along the road we passed an Amish couple, probably on their way home from Keady.

Paisley was disappointing - a bit run down and minus the wonderful little tea shop that served tea in your own selection from a seemingly limitless display of tea sets and from a seemingly limitless variety of teas and tissanes. Ah well - a fresh, tart, crisp apple from Keady for lunch. (Canadian apples all seem too mellow for our taste, but we've found a variety that suits us at last and bought a bag full - may have to go to Keady for them each week.)

Some magnificent crops and farm spreads along the way. This crop is soya beans.

The Lake Huron beaches are flat and sandy, unlike the stony beaches of Georgian Bay. These shots are all of Southampton.

Southampton Range Light with Chantry Island and Light in the background.

Beach north of Southampton (reminiscent of a shot of  Lesser Slave Lake taken last visit to Canada).

The Bruce Peninsula Portage, on the 10 km trip back across the peninsula to home.
