Queensland Trip Day 20 - Wednesday 09 August 2017 - Normanton, Karumba, Burketown'.

LEAVING LEICHARDT LAGOON

Up just before the sunrise. Visitors at breakfast.

NORMANTON

A small town mostly of old buildings but with a good feel.

Krys "The Savannah King" - largest authenticated croc ever shot.

The "Purple Pub".

Opposite the current cemetery, the old Aboriginal Cemetery.
We must check out its history.

KARUMBA

Fishing and tourism are big with a little other industry -  live cattle exporting and more.
Karumba was wiped out and rebuilt after Cyclone Wanda - 1974.

A different flood marker used on the flood plains near Normanton and Karumba.

Brolgas by the road.

BURKE AND WILLS AGAIN

Camp 119 between Normanton and Burketown - the point where Burke gave up on reaching the Gulf and turned back.

ALONG THE WAY

Lots of cattle and some goats.

BURKETOWN

Probably smaller than we had anticipated with few facilities although it is where the shire headquarters are based.  It is by the Albert River which is quite large.

By now we were hot and travel weary. The sight of a motel was too much.
