Queensland Trip Day 26 - Tuesday 15 August 2017 - Home to Laura

FARINA

After a good sleep, a breakfast visitor, last loading of the car and some time visiting parts of Farina that we have missed previously. It is an excellent example of the respectful restoration of a ghost town by a few enthusiasts.
The swag worked perfectly, as did the solar panels for keeping our many batteries and the computer charged up and accessible.

EMUS

It appears to have been a good season for emus. They were everywhere along the road south of Farina.

AROONA DAM

We had not visited Aroona Dam (Leigh Creek's water supply) for many years, although it is only a few kilometers off the main road. What a joy.

Mother and kid.

HOMING

Approaching Quorn

Our old home at Quorn

The Melrose bypass - just to remind us about all the unsealed roads we have travelled.

Our Laura home - the best view of all. We'll stay here for a few days to unpack and clean the car before going on to Adelaide.

Queensland Trip Day 25 - Monday 14 August 2017 - Birdsville to Farina

BIG RED AND LEAVING BIRDSVILLE

We awoke to a beautiful dawn over the lagoon, really uncertain about how far we were going to travel in this day. Our original plan was to camp at Coopers Creek but we were now "homing" and left our options open. A MUST was to drive out towards the Simpson Desert to experience "Big Red". It was impressive and worth the return trip of about 60 kms. While there we watched a group that had crossed the desert winching out a vehicle that had bogged and damaged its transmission.

 The Birdsville race track.

THE BIRDSVILLE TRACK

The Birdsville Track was long but well maintained and interesting, unlike the Strzelecki.

ON TO FARINA

Tired and just wanting something familiar, we decided for one last camp at Farina (a favourite of ours). It was windy and becoming quite cold, but lived up to our expectations.
