NORTHING DAY 06 - TUESDAY 05 JUNE 2018

ARLTUNGA - GEMTREE - TOWER ROCK

Another beautiful dawn saw us breaking camp and moving on again,
this time along the East Macdonnell Ranges tourist drive.

Having no urge to go fossicking, we walked and drove around the Arltunga Historic Reserve, taking photographs of old buildings and mining ruins.

The drive through  Hale Creek Station and along the Pinnacles Road was scenic. As we have seen before, clouds in this part of the world are often striking.

A short side trip to Gemtree, on the Plenty Highway, provided a refueling stop. Gemtree is basically a cattle station that has added a store and camping facilities with a focus on fossickers.

Almost 80 kms of the  Plenty Highway followed - firstly over a single track sealed section and a new fully sealed part before a long, long stretch of detour alongside roadworks for a new sealed section.
The Harts Range provided a striking backdrop.

We  drove into the Box Hole Meteorite Crater. Being in hilly country it was not easily discernible.

We had read about Tower Rock as a beautiful camping spot and it was. Unfortunately we had to share it with one other couple so didn't have that special feeling of it being "all our own". Actually we were hardly aware of each other.

Tower Hill has two notable toilets for visitors - some droppers and a cut down 44 gallon fuel drum over a pit. We had our portable toilet but John couldn't resist using the "Loo with a view".
