West & North June - July 2016 : Day 21 to 23 - Monday 18 to Wednesday 20 July - Homing

Tired and ready for home, we made the decision to travel home as quickly as possible. This meant early starts and long days of driving to cover the trip as

• Monday - Darwin to Devils Marbles
• Tuesday - Devils Marbles to Cadney Park
• Wednesday - Cadney Park to Laura.

Of interest during the Northern Territory part of the trip were the "ant hills" (termite mounds) along the road that had been dressed for fun.

Also of interest was the movement of army convoys to the impending exercise (war game) in the Top End. We must have seen some hundreds of vehicles over the three days - both army vehicles and contract vehicles carrying army equipment and personnel.

On both nights of the trip we slept under a full moon.

Sunset and sunrise on Tuesday and Wednesday were a special delight.

 Dawn on the road, about 30 kms NW of Glendambo.

Lake Hart (often mostly salt) had water in it and was giving special reflections.

A quick visit to the excellent Arid Lands Botanic Garden at Port Augusta for morning coffee and some arid lands plant buying.

The special welcome home was the cloud formation over the southern Flinders Ranges as we drove towards them. It has been a wonderful trip, but the feeling of the beauty of our own home place was quite overpowering.
